Long Beach’s boozy wave keeps surging in 2019, with a record number of new breweries opening in the south LA County city. There’s Portuguese Bend distillery, the forthcoming Ficklewood Ciderworks, and now Willie’s Tin Shop distillery. Willie’s opened last week, just behind the cocktail bar and restaurant Roxanne’s Bar & Lounge. The Press Telegram has all the details, noting that owner Robert Molina is serving vodka for now, with plans to craft rum, brandy and whiskey down the line.
The 1,000-square-foot distillery, which opened in a former metal shop that originally bore the same name, can be a bit tricky to access. The speakeasy-like vibe means drinkers have to book an appointment on Willie’s website, then walk through the alley behind Roxanne’s, stop at the brown door next to the metal gate, and knock on the door for entry.
