WOOSTER — A new craft beer festival is coming to Wooster.
The inaugural Back the Blue Brewfest — an event being organized by the Wooster Citizen’s Police Academy Alumni Association — is designed to support the Wooster Police Department.
"It’s all about positive police and community relationships," said Jean Boen Roberts, an academy graduate who’s helping organize the tasting.
Back the Blue is set for 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Wooster Hospitality Transit, 1450 Spruce St. Ext. The event is the first major craft beer tasting to be held in the community since Brewfest Wooster ended a few years ago.
The following breweries are participating:
— JAFB
— Millersburg
— Rhinegeist
— Thirsty Dog
— Deschutes
— Alaskan
— Saucy
— Duck-Rabbit
— Maumee Bay
— North High
— Hoppin’ Frog
It also will feature craft cocktails from Minglewood Distilling, along with Blake’s Cider, Tipsy Tomato and White Claw Hard Seltzer.
In addition to the beer, there will be live music and the Flamingo Jack’s food truck. There also will be a people’s choice award given for the top beer.
The Wooster Citizen’s Police Academy Alumni Association is hoping that more than 300 people attend. The association supports law enforcement officers and their families, including providing meals for officers working on Thanksgiving, offering mental health training for spouses, and purchasing some equipment for officers such as tourniquets for their belts.
Tickets are $45 in advance or $55 at the door. Designated driver tickets are available for $15.
